Project 313 | Artwork 139 – 19 October

Today my wife and I spent some quality time together. Even after 35 years of marriage we still go out on dates. It was such a beautiful warm day we drove out to Beachlands, bought some fresh snapper, oysters, chips and a nice cold coke zero. We parked under a big willow tree over looking the Waitemata Harbour at Rangitoto and Waiheke Island. No playing with our phones just catching up and enjoying each others company. A beautiful day with my sweetheart.

Title: 35th Anniversary

I still remember the first time I saw my wife. It was about 39 years ago at Judea Marae in Tauranga. 4 years later we were both sealed in the New Zealand LDS Temple 10 September 1981 for time and all eternity. Today marking our 35th anniversary. I am grateful for our 3 sons, 1 daughter, 3 daughter n laws and 9 grandchildren.
I enjoyed quality time today with my sweetheart. We checked out exhibitions at the Auckland Art Gallery. I totally enjoyed Wi Taepa retrospective and also Gordon Walters which has inspired me with tonight’s artwork.
I love the balance with his positive and negative design. Its like our life of 35 years of life and today we celebrate this small milestone with many more to look forward too.

Title: 98

Watching the news tonight and seeing the effects of synthetic drugs on our youth….. about 45 deaths.

I can’t even imagine the zombie like unfocused trance they get into.

Lack of love at home is where it all begins. Our young people are feeling neglected, unloved and hanging out with the wrong crowds.

There’s a saying,” you show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”

Love & support to help them stay away from this terrible drug.

Title: Missing you my Bro

Last night I walked past my dear brother Ian George’s painting on my wall. It made me stop and pause for a moment and I reflected on all the many great times we shared together. A very humble, talented special person.

We’ve been to France, USA, New Caledonia, Cook Islands and around Aotearoa. We taught many workshops back in the Cook Islands to give back to our anau. We organised and curated many exhibitions and symposiums together. Ian loved and adored his beautiful sweet heart Kay and a loved father by his children and mokopuna.

I am grateful I have a couple of his paintings hanging in my home.

I am missing you my Bro. This tribute is to you.
