Today at work we had a very interesting workshop on NEUROLOGICAL ISSUES AND RELEVANCE TO PRACTICE. We basically learnt a bit about our brain like how stress and neglect can have such a big impact on our brain.
The development of the brain is a life-long process, believed capable of changing throughout the lifespan. However, it is the changes that occur in the early years that are particularly important because they are the bedrock of what comes after.
90% of a child’s brain development occurs before they are 5 years old !
There are over 100 billion neurons in the brain making up massive amounts of networks. The brains communicates with the rest of the body through the spinal chord. The spinal cord has nerves that branch out which send and receive information.
It has helped me to be more patient, understanding of their behaviours, emotions, attitudes and not judgemental of whanau.
