Before the Anthony Joshua fight, Joseph’s mum Sala admitted that the uncertainty of the outcome takes a heavy toll, so much so that she finds it hard to even muster any sense of pride in her son’s achievements until, at least, the result has played out.
“I guess I’m more worried than proud, because the fight is not yet done. And I do not know what’s going to happen in that ring.
That maternal concern has been a constant throughout Joseph’s career, and has extended further after his younger sibling John entered the professional ranks in late 2016.
“I worry about every fight…every single fight ever since he was an amateur. I’ve been there since his first fight, so I’m not sure how I’m still alive,” she says with a smile.
Joseph Parker will face Englishman Dillian Whyte in a heavyweight clash in London this month.
Parker said: “We’ve both been in with AJ. One of us ended the fight on our feet, the other didn’t. That pretty much speaks for itself. I’m really looking forward to fighting Dillian. He’s got a big mouth and says some funny things – and he’s also highly entertaining in the ring”.
Like Joe’s mum and family, we will all be supporting him to beat Dillian Whyte.
