Happy Mother's Day 2019

Project 313 | Artwork 158 – 12 May

It has been a while since I completed my last artwork for Project 313. I so enjoyed drawing this one no.158. I drew it from a photo I had of my wife when we were dating each other in 1979- 1983.

We have been married for 36 years.

It brought back a lot of memories through out our life. She is the mother of our 4 adult children, 3 daughter n laws and 9 grandchildren. She is my best friend and my eternal companion. I am truly grateful for all she has done for me and my family.

I dedicate this to my sweetheart.

Project 313 | Artwork 157 – 09 November

Wow, I have made it to the halfway mark. A time to reflect and think about moving forward. When I first started this project I didn’t have a clue as to how hard it would be, Some of the challenges I have faced along the way are
• Averaging 4-5hrs sleep a night (6 months)
• Always tired during the day
• Always forgetful & memory loss
• Eating late at night while still awake creating artworks
• weight gain 7.5kgs
• Hba1c 51 now 62
• Shocking cholesterol results
• Don’t feel like doing any exercise
• Artworks not generating enough income
• Was hoping to create art full time
• Stressed each day wondering am I going to create
My health has taken a toll. From this halfway mark moving forward I have decided to only create artworks once a week instead of 6 days a week. Just from this move I now feel a big load off my shoulders. I need to get my health back on track. My main goals are to have at least 6-7 hrs sleep each day, I am now 124.5kgs, I want to lose 9.5 kgs by the end of project 313 and be 115kgs. I also set a goal to get my hba1c back to <50. I would be really grateful if I had more sales. Watch this space.

This week was the Diwali celebration. Our church had a culture performance evening. I was the MC and the Ward I belong too performed a dance to celebrate India. It was exciting, fun, colourful and very energetic. I didn’t realise how much flexibility and movement was involved also the cool beats of the music.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced $1.9m of initial funding support the development of 26 sections on Māori freehold land for whānau to build on, and live in new homes.
“Today’s announcement is consistent with the government’s priority to build strong and healthy communities, not just houses,” said Ms Ardern.
Phase two of the investment will see $1.7m invested in the future to develop a further 34 sections, she said.

Tonight our team from Papakura Marae attended the annual National Hauora Coalition Awards evening. Happy to say Papakura Marae was awarded the Innovation Award. I enjoyed the key note speakers Dame Tariana Turia & Pat Sneddon. Dame Tariana challenged Pat to help make a difference for Maori equity in health. Pat spoke about DNA’s. In the health system DNA is did not attend. Normally 3 DNA’s you strike out. The system not really interested as to why whaanau DNA. I liked Pat’s translation Did Not Attract.

Carrying on with support of Diabetes awareness. People with diabetes should have blood tests every 3 months and gives them an accurate account of how well they are self managing themselves. Diabetes is too much sugar in the blood. My personal goal is to have my 3 monthly Hba1c at <55.
